How I Can Help
As an Ohio special education advocate, I support families as they navigate the special education process from evaluation to implementation—and everything in between.
I can help you:
Whether you’re just getting started or deep into the process, I’m here to help you feel more confident and informed every step of the way.
A full review of all records to spot issues and check for compliance. This package includes a 45-minute meeting to discuss recommendations and next steps. Advocate does not attend IEP or 504 meeting.
Billed in ten-minute increments. Special education advocate will attend IEP/ETR/504 meetings, in addition to communicating with the school, and potentially filing complaints on client's behalf. Client will receive detailed invoices accounting for time billed.
Detailed billing agreement will be outlined in Agreement for Services signed by Client and Advocate prior to services beyond initial consultation
I’m Lauren Bowen, the advocate behind EmpowerEd Ohio. I live in Central Ohio but have taken cases in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. I came to advocacy the way many parents do—lost, overwhelmed, and trying to make sense of the special education system after my daughter’s diagnosis in 2015.
Since then, I’ve spent years learning, volunteering, and training so I can help other families navigate this process with more clarity and support than I had. I’ve served as an educational surrogate parent for students in foster care, attended IEP, ETR, and discipline-related meetings on behalf of students all over Ohio.
As a graduate of the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates (COPAA) Special Education Advocate Training program, I have learned from some of the best advocates and special education attorneys in the country. Following that intensive program, I completed a practicum with AW Law, working alongside attorneys fighting for the rights of students.
I believe in public education for all students. I believe kids do well when they can. And I believe parents are powerful when they have the right tools. If you're feeling stuck or overwhelmed—I’ve been there, and I’m here to help.
